When an unexpected inheritance elevates her family to the ranks of the aristocracy, Amelia Hathaway discovers that tending to her younger sisters and wayward brother was easy compared to navigating the intricacies of the ton. Even more challenging: the attraction she feels for the tall, dark, and dangerously handsome Cam Rohan.
Wealthy beyond most men’s dreams, Cam has tired of society’s petty restrictions and longs to return to his “uncivilized” Gypsy roots. When the delectable Amelia appeals to him for help, he intends to offer only friendship–but intentions are no match for the desire that blindsides them both. But can a man who spurns tradition be tempted into that most time-honored arrangement: marriage? Life in London society is about to get a whole lot hotter….
Mine Till Midnight is the first book in Lisa Kleypas’s latest series. This series of books follow the Hathaway family through their trials and tribulations, as well as their love stories. One reviewer described the Hathaway family as “unpolished”. I can’t find another more appropriate word to describe this delightful, yet flawed, family. Mine Till Midnight brings back Cam Rohan, the wealthy half-gypsy that we were first introduced to in Devil in Winter. As he was in Devil in Winter, Cam is the manager of a Gentleman’s club in Victorian London, living somewhat on the fringes of society because of his mixed heritage. Our heroine, Amelia Hathaway is desperately searching through the brothels and gaming hells for Leo, her drunken wastrel of a brother. Leo has recently inherited a title which unexpectedly drags the family into the aristocracy. Cam, who has been unsettled and searching for more meaning in his life, meets the staid and uptight, proper spinster (Amelia) and sets about making himself part of the Hathaway family. Cam is smart, funny, sexy and most of all caring – he fits into the Hathaway family perfectly.
The sexual tension between Cam and Amelia makes for lively reading! I won’t give away the rest of the story as I leave you to read it yourself. I agree with many of the reviewers, it is one of Lisa Kleypas’s best works to date in my opinion, and it is a strong start to what promises to be a wonderful series! I’ve included below some of the industry’s reviews – let me know what you think!
“Vintage Kleypas…An unforgettable story peopled with remarkable characters and a depth of emotion that will leave you breathless with the wonderment of knowing what falling in love is really like.” Romantic Times BOOKreviews They give Mine Till Midnight 4.5 stars and rate it a top pick.
“The book left me in a happy, mellow mood, and sometimes, most of the time, really, that’s exactly what I want from a historical romance.” says Smart Bitches
“Kleypas’s effortless style makes for another sexy exploration of 19th century passion and peccadilloes, riveting from start to finish.” Publishers Weekly
“Captivating…The love story brims with humor and touches of pathos as the characters struggle with lost love and relinquishing grief to embrace life anew.” Fresh Fiction
“Aside from creating wonderfully alluring characters in Cam and Amelia, Kleypas shows sexual tension, sensitively handles prejudice, and expertly weaves in a bit of the supernatural to round out a tale that is pure delight. Cam and Amelia’s romance is well-paced and is a pleasing balance of wit and passion. Their relationship is…riveting from beginning to end.” Romance Reviews Today
I’ve heard so many good things about Lisa Kleypas. I really must read one of her books soon! Great review 🙂
Chrissie,
Thanks for hosting the meme. I enjoyed finding more blogs to read, and more books to read!
I like the description of the Hathaway family as unpolished. Such a great term to describe amazing characters. I haven’t read many of these types of books but my mom & one of my friens might enjoy this. I’ll definitly tell them about this author. I do like the idea that it is set in Regency times. I do love that backdrop. Nice job on your review!
Julie!
I agree! When I found that comment about them being unpolished, I decided that I couldn’t find a better term and so I used the quote! There are many people better with words than I! Thanks for your praise! Pass on this book – actually the whole series! I was in tears by the end. So well written!
Im not a fan of Historical, but this sounds like a delightful read! great review! =D
Larissa,
Thanks for visiting! I tend to wander through the gneres. For the past bunch of months I seem to be reading mostly historical because everything else I pick up seems annoying! I’m sure that will change, however!
Great review.
So far I only read one historical by Lisa Kleypas, maybe I should give them another try. I usually prefer her contemporary romances.
Thanks for the compliment! I actually loved this whole series! I’ll be posting them one at a time over the next couple of weeks. This series had me in tears by the end. Some of the books I like more than others, but as a set they are outstanding!
Nice review – thanks for sharing it!
Thanks for the visit! I’m a subscriber as we seem to have books in common. I’m looking forward to what you write!
