Enquiring Minds Want To Know

By Barb Drozdowich

Happy Thursday Morning!  It’s time to get to know our fellow bloggers through Dollycas’ weekly meme called Enquiring Minds Want To Know.  Dollycas gives us three questions to answer and then we take a bit of time and wander through blogs learning about each other.

This week the questions are:

1- Do you have a real of fake tree?? We usually get a dug tree – meaning we go out to a tree farm and choose a tree.  They dig it up and wrap the root ball in burlap and then when Christmas is over with we plant it in the back yard.  We don’t have a really high success rate with growing the trees, but we like the idea.  We’ll be tree hunting this weekend 🙂

2- Do you feel you decorated just enough, not enough or over the top? I’d like to say that we decorate just enough, or maybe on the minimalist side.  I’m not really very decorative!  We tend to decorate the tree and put lights on the house and few other things.

3- Do you have a favorite Christmas Cookie recipe?  We love to make cookies at Christmas!  We loads and give most of them away to friends and neighbours.  One of the tastiest (IMHO) is one that I make from the Mrs. Field’s Cookie Book that I got several years ago.  They are called Cinnamon Sugar Butter Cookies

Ingredients:

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp salt

1 cup dark brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup white sugar

1 cup salted butter, softened

2 large eggs

2 tsp pure vanilla extract

Topping:

3 tbsp white sugar

1 tbsp ground cinnamon

Preheat oven to 300oF

Combine the sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl for the topping, set aside

Mix dry ingredients, beat wet ingredients until fluffy.  Combine and mix until just mixed. Shape dough into 1 inch balls and roll each ball in topping and place on ungreased cookie sheet 2 inches apart.  Bake for 18-20 minutes and immediately transfer cookies to a cool surface.

Enjoy the cookies!!

The cookies sound delicious! I love that you and your husband try to give life to Christmas trees once their seasonal purpose is over, that’s fantastic! Hope it works for you this year. 🙂

      HI Kate,
Thanks for the visit! The cookies are rather addictive! I hope this year’s tree grows because we need some more shade in our backyard!

I love the dug tree idea, but we wouldn’t have much luck with that, too much snow until like late April.

Have added your recipe to my pile for my daughters to bake!!

My parents always had a live tree and planted it after Christmas. We always have an artificial one.

      Hi Ellie!
I grew up with a moth eaten tree of some unknown age 🙂 The real tree is probably an expense that we shouldn’t afford, but we continue to do it! Hope you have a great christmas!

What a neat idea to plant the trees afterward!
