Welcome to week 1 of The Crochet Diary!
My friend Cyndi over at Dog-Eared and Bookmarked is learning to crochet! I’m a huge fan of knitting and crocheting. I learned as a child of what ever age and have spent many years making projects. Knitting and crocheting are something that I find relaxing and occupy my hands when I watch TV. (I can’t stand to just watch TV) I think it’s important to have something like this that you can fiddle with over the years. Maybe it’s not crochet, maybe it’s needlepoint or maybe it’s woodworking. Whatever it is, I think it’s good to have something like that.
To that end, I’ve been teaching a student that lives in our house to knit. She is knitting a scarf and she periodically has me correct mistakes, but she is so proud of her accomplishments! I think it is great that Cyndi is learning to crochet and although I don’t have time right now to work on anything, I can encourage her by linking up with her each week and finding out how she is doing. I also thought I could show her what she can do with her skill!
The first picture that I came to was a baby blanket I made my daughter. It’s not a nice picture of my daughter, but it shows a simple project that can be done on any scale. The afghan in the picture is for a baby, but it can easily be increased in size and be a throw or even a bedspread. Best thing yet – the entire project is double and single crochet – something that Cyndi has mastered!
If any of you want to join us in our little Saturday activity drop me or Cyndi a note and join in!

Love the post! Such a pretty blanket. My mom made me one when I was a little girl. It covers a twin sized bed… I still snuggle with it when I’m sick.

Hi Noelle!
You could crochet…..you just need the right teacher!
