Hoppy Easter Eggstravaganza Giveaway Blog Hop

By Barb Drozdowich

Welcome to the Hoppy Easter Eggstravaganza Giveaway Blog Hop!

This fun hop will go from today to midnight of the 25th.  So when you are sitting trying to recover from Easter dinner, go through the list and enter as many  giveaways as you want! I’ll probably post the winners next Monday!

This Giveaway hop is sponsored by I Am A Reader Not A Writer and Once Upon a Twilight.

So, on to what is being given away!  The most popular prize in these giveaways seems to be the gift card.

The first prize that I’ll mention is a $10.00 gift card from Barnes & Noble.  Since this is an international give away, it can be an e-card from somewhere that is most appropriate.

The second prize is generously offered by Kathryn Shay – it is a copy of her latest release The Betrayal!  I’m reviewing this book today, so check out my post to see my thoughts on this book. (I thought it was great!)

The rules are simple for this giveaway.  You must be a follower.  If you follow me on Twitter, you get one extra entry.  If you tweet about this giveaway, you get 5 extra entries and if you leave a comment or question for Kathryn, you also get 5 extra entries!  Simple!

Fill out the form below and then hop on the giveaway list below that and enter some or all of the 276 blogs joining it.  Just think, if you win at each blog……

Kathryn, if you got the chance to write with anyone who would it be?

    • Kathryn Shay

      April 21, 2011 at 4:54 am

      Donna,
I’d love to write with Judith Guest, the author of ORDINARY PEOPLE. Second would be John Irving. I loved his THE WORLD ACCORDING TO GARP. Third would be Margarte Atwood. Her book THE HANDMAID’S TALE is wonderful.

If you were to re-read any book, which would it be?

    • Kathryn Shay

      April 21, 2011 at 4:56 am

      Brittany,
I do reread a lot of books. I just finished THE HUNGER GAMES trilogy and would like to reread this. And I sometimes go back to J.D. Robb’s older books in the DEATH series.

      Sherry,
Contemporary romance and women’s fiction. I released a mainstream wf in September, THE PERFECT FAMILY, and would like to do another book like that soon. Meanwhile, I’m doing some romances. Those come easier.

Kathryn, do you listen to music while you are writing?

      No, Linda.
I need quiet. No music, no TV, no talking to me. Dogs’ snoring doesn’t bother me though.

Nope, no music, no TV or videos. I like it quiet.

      Sue,
My online covers are done by Pat Ryan of patryangraphics.com.

I pick everything out and she puts them together. I found the photo and the painting myself online. The painitng is significant because the heroine is a painter and this is what one of her paintings would look like. Cool, huh?

Thank you for the giveaway! 😉 This book looks great. Kathryn, is this the first book in a series or just a stand alone? and I agree with Sue, the covers are absolutely gorgeous 🙂

    • Kathryn Shay

      April 21, 2011 at 7:52 pm

      Chelsea,
THE BETRAYAL is a stand alone. No follow up books. However, I have three series epubbed. First is the Hidden Cove firefighter trilogy, with three books in it. Then the O’Neil family series, with three books. (All backlist books.) And the Educators series, three novellas, about teachers in a modern high school. This is new work. You can find them at http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-text&field-keywords=kathryn+shay&x=18&y=22

kathryn, sounds like you are a Hunger Games fan too. Can’t wait for the movie!

If you could write a book in any genre what would it be?

    • Kathryn Shay

      April 22, 2011 at 7:33 pm

Jennifer–I used to teach a course in science fiction and I love the genre. I’d probably do one with a romance in it. I’ve tried my hand at a time travel from the future but only got a hundred pages written. Who knows, maybe I’ll go back to it.

    Kathryn,

Do you have any writing quirks? Where do you find inspiration?

Thanks for taking the time to answer questions!
    Kris

    • Kathryn Shay

      April 22, 2011 at 7:36 pm

No writing quirks that I can think of, Kris. I do type sitting on the bed or couch with a laptop.

Inspiration is everywhere. I think of a profession I’d like to write about and research it–like the firefighter stories I did. I rode with my local fire department to learn all about firefighting. The months I spent doing that resulted in eight fireifighter books and the one I’m working on now.

Sometimes a backstory will just hit me, and I’ll go from there.

Writers just have inspiration come to them, I think.

Have you ever considered writing in another genre besides contemporary? If so, which other genre appeals?

    • Kathryn Shay

      April 22, 2011 at 7:37 pm

      Marlene,
As I said to Kris in the above note–it would be science fiction romance.

    Kathryn,

Loved the O’Neils [Ludzecky’s] Series. Where did you come up with the name Ludzecky?

    • Kathryn Shay

      April 23, 2011 at 8:08 pm

      Vonda,
I think I made it up then found a version of it a character naming book. It really grew on me!

    Hey Kathryn!
I know some writers have been writing their entire lives – have you? Or have you just started writing?

    • Kathryn Shay

      April 23, 2011 at 8:10 pm

      Lissa,
I’ve been writing all my life but I wasn’t published until 1995. Those first efforts were diaries, poetry, short stories and essays. Then I turned to full length fiction.

Hi there, Kathryn! If you could make any book into a movie, which would you choose?

    • Kathryn Shay

      April 25, 2011 at 2:08 pm

      Kaity,
I’d probably choose THE PERFECT FAMILY, a recent release about a family whose seventeen year old tells them he’s gay. It traces how this disclosure affects his family, school, church and community.

I even have stars picked out: the father–David James Elliot (of JAG fame, Ashley Judd as the mother and Zach Ephrom as the kid.

    • Kathryn Shay

      April 25, 2011 at 2:10 pm

      Toni,
Some of J.D. Robb’s DEATH series. I love particular scenes in those books.

Very unique premise for a story! And it sounds like a great book…EXCEPT for the rape! I usually steer clear of books with this type of storyline; however, Sugarbeat’s review indicates it’s a HEA which I love so I’m willing to give it a shot! So….just how descriptive is the rape?

    • Barb

      April 24, 2011 at 7:48 pm

      Hi Laura!
It’s not descriptive at all, it is mentioned as an event (no details) and then the trauma to a young girl is discussed but again, without alot of details. Does that make any sense? Kathryn will likely describe this better than I can 🙂 Thanks for the visit!

    • Kathryn Shay

      April 25, 2011 at 2:11 pm

      Laura,
I understand this concern. There is NO description of the rape at all in the book. The story starts after it happened and she has one dream about it, but all you see are her reactions while sleeping as viewed by the boy. I’m sure this isn’t an issue. Hope you’ll read it.

I read the blurb on Amazon about THE BETRAYAL. It sounds like a very good story. What was the inspiration for this story?
I checked your backlist and it seems you have written some thought provoking stories, the best kind.

      Dear Librarypat,
My inspiration was I wanted to tell a story about two kids who meet as teens under very unusual conditions and who their lives are intertwined forever! Yes, I tend to write complex, emotional stories.

Which tv show/ movie has inspired you the most?

    • Kathryn Shay

      April 25, 2011 at 2:17 pm

      tearyeyedstars,
I’m not sure any shows have inspired my work. I do watch TV just for the entertainment, though, and sometimes I think “Wow, what a great scene, or detail or theme.” That probably influences my creative process.

How do you come up with the plot of your books? Are any of the characters based on people you know?
