The Wild Card is another book in the “Men Out of Uniform” series written by Rhonda Nelson. I have read all the books in this series so far and they continue to entertain me!
Seth McCutcheon grants his beloved mother her dying request – to leave the military – the career he thought he’d spend the rest of his life in. Seth’s father wandered off when Seth was young, leaving Seth and his sister Katie to be raised by their mother. Katie is now a divorced mother of a young son and floundering somewhat. Seth’s mother wants to try to ensure that he is out of harm’s way to take care of Katie and Mitchell.
Although Seth has left the military, he isn’t happy about it. He has been given a job at Ranger Security – a security firm created by a former Rangers and staffed entirely of former Rangers. Each one of these men came to Ranger Security under different circumstances, but they all wanted to be there, and they all met the women that they are married to while carrying out their first assignment!
Seth’s first assignment is to determine who is trying to sabotage the wedding of Trent and Nella, a famous football star and his fiance. In order to do that, he goes undercover as the wedding planner’s boyfriend. You have to know where this will lead! Penelope Hart, the wedding planner is absolutely determined not to ever get married. She a serial dater; men get kicked to the curb after 3 months. As time passes, Seth becomes obsessed with being the one who lasts longer than 3 moths – he wants her for life!
This story is another winner from Rhonda Nelson! I am enjoying the “Men Out of Uniform” series. Each one of them has been super steamy, and rollicking with laughter and good times. At the same time, what ever the mystery is that needs to be solved, the men in uniform get it done!
This book is no different in that respect! The story line is smoothly written, the sex scenes steamed up my glasses, and the characters just leaped from the pages. The ever increasing collection of men at Ranger Security are a fascinating group. Each book lets us have a little look into what’s happening with the lives of the ones already married. Each of the men’s characters mesh well. They work together as a team – each using their strengths to solve whatever the issue is. There is enough tension to create a page-turner and enough sex to classify as a Blaze novel. As I’ve said several times in the past, they are great little books to pop in a purse and keep me entertained wherever it is I’m waiting!
