Welcome to Sugarbeat’s Books – The Home of the Romance Novel!
Sunday is the day that we kick back and relax. Since I love books that are in a series, that is one of the ways I relax – reading about a family!
Today we are continuing with Vicki Lewis Thompson’s latest series “Sons of Chance” that are being published by Harlequin Blaze. Last week I posted a review for Wanted – the first book in this series. Today is Ambushed – the story of another one of the Chance boys -Gabe
Ambushed! by Vicki Lewis Thompson

Morgan O’Connelli hated the restless lifestyle she’d had as a child. All she wants now is to create a real home in small-town Wyoming. So first she hangs up her real-estate agent shingle…then she promptly borrows the horse of the hottest cowboy in town!
Cutting-horse champion Gabe Chance is blown away by the feisty redhead who unexpectedly lands right in his bed…and, soon enough, his heart! Morgan’s perfect for him in every way. Until he realizes that while she’s turned out to be everything he never knew he wanted, he’s got everything someone in her profession has ever wanted…his family’s ranch.
And that’s a legacy he’s just not willing to give up—not even for the sexiest woman he’s ever fallen for….
Ambushed is the second book in the Sons of Chance series by Vicki Lewis Thompson. I started reading this story when I received the first one, Wanted, as a free eBook from eHarlequin. I loved the story – cowboys, the wild west, series romance and some spicy stories – what more could you ask for. This whole series seems to be Blaze books, so I’ve been getting it as part of my Blaze subscription. I’ve enjoyed the books that I have read in the series so far. Just a quick note on the cover – isn’t that cover outstanding! I love the Blaze covers! Most of them have a partially naked man on the cover. This one is following in that great tradition!
As you can read from the blurb, this book is about the third Chance son – Gabe. He’s been absent for the first book as he makes his living working rodeos and showcasing the ranch’s cutting horses. He’s home to ride in the town’s Fourth of July parade – something the family does every year – but this year his dad is missing. His dad died in a car accident that we learn more about in the third book (I’m actually well into the third book as I write this review). He catches sight of Morgan O’Connelli having a little trouble controlling her horse and rides over to offer to help. Since Gabe has been gone from town for a bit, he doesn’t realize that Morgan has returned to town (she spend some time in Shoshone growing up) and is now a real estate agent. When Gabe’s dad died the family was pestered by real estate agents who assumed that they would sell now that the father was gone. Although Gabe is interested in Morgan, his brother Jack is pretty rude to her and convinces her to leave. This is the start of the relationship between Morgan and Gabe, and the brother’s straightening out Jack.
This book was great! Morgan has a history in town and is the first essentially local girl to be added to the Chance family. She spunky and can hold her own with a family of overbearing males! The over-riding story is the re-organization of the three brothers and the their dealing with their grief over losing their dad.
This was a great spicy story. This is the second story in the series and I’m loving every one!
