Excerpt:

The kitchen scene I blogged on my site, and the recipe for Pear-Hazelnut Tarts — the link to the recipe can be found on my website.

What am I doing? Angela raced to the refrigerator and opened the door to test the firmness of the dough, taking time to clear her mind from the sensual daze induced by Jake’s kisses.

Heat scorched her cheeks. If the timer hadn’t gone off, would she have let him take her right there on the table? She sprinkled flour onto the counter and placed the dough on it, forming it into a square.

“Can I help?” Jake’s husky voice drifted over her sensitive nerves as he came up behind her and heat radiated from him as he positioned himself at her back.

She pushed hair from her face and reached for the rolling pin, not looking at him. She felt like a gazelle being stalked by a lion.

“No, I’ve got it, thanks.” She rolled the dough into a rectangle, before folding the short ends over the middle to make three layers. Turning the dough a quarter turn she rolled it away from her into another large rectangle.

“That looks complicated.” Jake placed an arm at each side of her, then gripped the counter and peered over her shoulder. Effectively caging her in, his warm, minty, breath feathered across her face. “Explain to me what you’re doing. I might like to make it for my son sometime.”

Her hands trembled when she folded the short ends over the middle again to make another three layers. Normally, she’d place the dough back in the refrigerator at this point for another twenty minutes, but if she worked fast enough she could skip that step. And she wanted to get this done as soon as possible and put some space between her and Jake. Afraid she would throw herself back into his arms.

She glanced over her shoulder and met his heated gaze. His eyes smoldered with banked lust. “Seriously?”

He nodded, watching her with a predatory gleam in his eyes.

She took another shaky breath and glanced back down. “Okay. It—it’s a simple recipe really. I’m making dough for Pear-Hazelnut Tarts. I’ll write it down for you.”

“That’d be great.” His body pressed up against her.

Angela gulped. “Well—well, first you prepare the dough, then you need to wrap it in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about half an hour.”

“Uh huh.” He leaned in and nuzzled her ear. “Refrigerate the dough. Got it.”

Her mind went into lockdown. Nothing but silence and sexual tension filled the room.

“I’m listening,” Jake brushed his thumb across her cheek. “Flour,” he murmured, nuzzling her neck.

“Oh.” Her body was wound tight and desire pooled in her belly, and her breasts felt heavy and aching with the need to be touched. A tremor ran through her.

She gave the dough another turn and again folded the ends over. “After you remove the dough from the refrigerator, you need to roll it flat, and shape it into a large rectangle, then fold the short ends over the middle so that it makes three layers.” She demonstrated it for him, although she didn’t really think he was paying attention.

“Right. Three layers,” he repeated. One hand slid to her stomach, tugging her closer.

Angela’s pulse raced. “Umm. Repeat this four times,” she managed to say. “The dough needs to remain firm, if not . . . if not, put it back in the refrigerator for another fifteen minutes before continuing.”

“Mmm, sounds like a lot of work.”

She gave her shoulders a little shrug to loosen his arms from around her. “Some space here, please,” she said, breathlessly.

book feature with Lucy Felthouse, erotica author of Raising the barRaising the Bar by Lucy Felthouse
When Kayleigh takes a gap year before starting University, she decides she’s going to stay away from guys and just concentrate on having fun and experiencing life. That means going through a lot of batteries, but she’s happy and satisfied.

That is, until she gets to Spain on her travels and meets her new co-worker, Luciano. The scorching hot Spaniard soon has Kayleigh’s knickers in a twist— literally—and the time they spend together seriously raises the bar for her sex life. How will any other man ever compare?

*****

My first shift at the restaurant passes in a blur of flirtatious glances. My pussy swells and my clit throbs, desperate for attention. It’s all I can do to resist disappearing into the bathroom for a sneaky wank. Even better, I’d like to drag Luciano in there with me and ride him until his teeth rattle. Instead, I console myself with the fact that once I get back to my apartment, I can do whatever the hell I like. And I know for a fact it’s going to involve an orgasm.

I take a taxi back to my apartment rather than walking the dark, unfamiliar streets alone. It also means I can get there quicker and relieve the tension that the sexy Spaniard has caused. I pay the driver as fast as possible then rush inside and slam the door behind me. I heave a sigh of relief as I lock myself in.

Undressing, I drop my clothes by the washing machine and head to the bathroom, desperate to get clean. It’s not work that’s made me feel dirty, though. The flirting with Luciano have left me seriously wet. The panties I’ve just discarded in front of the washing machine are sodden.

Stepping under the shower, I groan with pleasure as the hot water caresses my fevered skin. I stand there for a few seconds, letting the heat and the water relax me. My tension slips away and runs down the plughole. I grab the shampoo and give my hair a wash, digging my fingers into my scalp and massaging it. Now I’m calmer. But by the time I’ve rinsed the suds, he’s popped into my head again. Damn him.

Author Interview with Leslie Wright, author of Basement Level 5: Never Scared

By Barb Drozdowich

Welcome to Sugarbeat’s Books – The Home of the Romance Novel!

Today we are welcoming Leslie Wright to the blog!  She’s here to share some information with us about her book, Basement Level 5: Never Scared, and herself.  She answering some questions for us so that we can learn more about her and her writing!

Barb – Tell us a little about you—what inspires you to write?

Leslie – I’ve always had a wild imagination. When I was younger, I made up sugarbeat's books romance books romance novel reviews historical contemporary eroticastories with my Barbie Dolls that mostly resembled soap operas. I was kid making my Barbie Doll beat up an abusive husband or jump off a cliff or meet the man of her life and run away from her suffocating family. It was sometime in college that I actually decided to put my stories down on paper. And now I can’t stop.

Barb – Tell us about Basement Level Five: Never Scared.

Leslie – The idea for Basement Level Five: Never Scared came from a dream. I had a week-long dream about the premise and the characters. I’d wake up and fall back into the same dream. I told everyone I knew about the dream and I can still remember it in vivid detail.

Once I started writing, I realized that there were so many themes running through the book and that made me want to keep going. I fell in love with the characters. I know them. I rooted for them to escape their environment.

Alexa hates what her life has become and wants her children to have different choices in life. But her past threatens to mess that up. In the end, she has to make a choice. Is she willing to leave everything behind—including her husband to protect her kids?

Blurb

sugarbeat's books romance books romance novel reviews historical contemporary eroticaAlexa Martinez was raised to believe that murder, deceit, and lies were a part of life. A trained killer, she follows in her father’s footsteps, specializing in political assassinations for Martinez Security—contracted through the CIA. She thrives on the power, money, respect, and—most of all—the adrenaline rush.

Despite the danger associated with her profession, Alexa strives to give her children a normal life. But when her past catches up with her, they become pawns in a deadly game of revenge. Operating from a secret base five levels below ground, Alexa struggles to unravel the puzzle, uncovering secrets that will alter their lives forever.

Barb –  Do you write from the hip? Or do you outline?

Leslie – I think it’s a combination of both. With BL5, I didn’t use an outline—at all. It just happened. With other works, I normally write the first 10,000 words or so before I sit down and do a basic outline.

Barb – How did you celebrate your first sale?

Leslie – I cried…. I actually didn’t celebrate much because I was preparing for surgery and I had to fast for it.

Barb –  What do you love most about writing? What’s the hardest part of writing for you?

Leslie – I love coming up with new ideas. The best part is getting the first pages down on paper and realizing this is a viable story—whether it’s a short, a novella, or a full length novel.

The hardest part for me is editing and revising. It’s like cutting a limb off or something when I have to get rid of my words.

Barb – Do you have a favorite character from your stories or are they like your children and you can’t choose between them?

Leslie – I’d have to say my favorite character is Alexa. But I love all of them. They are all my babies, but Alexa is dear to my heart. I love that she’s human and she’s kind of leading a double life, with a hidden past that she’s firmly running away from. She loves with her whole heart—unconditionally.

Barb –  Do you see yourself in any of your characters?

Summer – Of course, I’d love to say I was this kick-ass woman who could pistol whip a bad-guy, but I’m not. Ironically, though, I was “Alexa” in my dream. When it started, I looked like… me laying on the couch watching General Hospital. But when the danger came, I eventually morphed into this beautiful assassin in all black leather with long flowing hair slicked back into a ponytail. I was the Bomb.com in that dream.

But in my new novel, I’m more like Sydney (the heroine). She’s…funny. What can I say? She’s a planner (and that’s what I love to do). She’s constantly worried about what others think of her (that’s so me, but I’m working on it).

Barb –  What are you reading?

Leslie – Right now, I’m reading Chancing Faith by Empi Baryeh.

Barb –  Where can your fans find you?

Leslie – Facebook. I love FB because most of my family is active on it and it’s a good way to keep up with them. And it’s easier to navigate. If you ever want to find me, I’ll be on there at some point throughout a day. You can also find me here:

Barb – What project are you working on now?

Leslie – A contemporary romance—a spin on a marriage of convenience (one of my all-time favorite types of romance)

Leslie – Thanks for having me. I enjoyed it.
