Today is a special day on the blog!  We are celebrating Pavarti K Tyler’s release of Shadow on the Wall!  I’ve included a blurb, and excerpt and a bit about Pavarti herself.  I hope that you find this interesting and follow some of the links to find out more!

sugarbeat's books romance books romance novel reviews historical contemporary eroticaRecai Osman: Muslim, philosopher, billionaire and Superhero?

Controversial and daring, Shadow on the Wall details the transformation of Recai Osman from complicated man to Superhero. Forced to witness the cruelty of the Morality Police in his home city of Elih, Turkey, Recai is called upon by the power of the desert to be the vehicle of change. Does he have the strength to answer Allah’s call or will his dark past and self doubt stand in his way?

Pulling on his faith in Allah, the friendship of a Jewish father-figure and a deeply held belief that his people deserve better, Recai Osman must become The SandStorm.

In the tradition of books by Margaret Atwood and Salman Rushdie, Shadow on the Wall tackles issues of religion, gender, corruption and the basic human condition. Beautiful and challenging, this is not a book to miss.

Excerpt

Recai walked for what seemed like miles, resisting the instinct to second-guess his direction. The sand moved between his toes but soon he found his footing, and his body responded to the landscape as if from some genetic memory. He remembered his father’s words from a trip he took to the Oman desert as a child: Never take your shoes off; the sand will eat away at your feet. Recai had done it anyway, then and now, feeling more in control with that connection to the ground, its movements speaking to his flesh directly.

His father had always been full of surprises: one moment the strict disciplinarian, the next, he would wake Recai in the middle of the night to see a falling star. Recai had never had the chance to get to know him as an adult. Instead, he lived with the enigmatic memory of a great man lost.

Recai stood in the middle of the desert—every direction would eventually lead to Elih or one of the smaller villages scattered around the city. But who would take in a stranger? A stranger with a Hugo Boss turban and a bruised and bloodied face? In’shallah, he would be delivered to safety.

Welcome also to Steamy Saturdays

This is the day of the week that I post a review that is on the steamier side of romance.  Today’s selection is a Blaze novel from the series that I have been reading.  I hope you enjoy this one!  Let’s face it, the cover alone sells the book!

The Keeper by Rhonda Nelson
ISBN: 978-0-373-79668-7

Ranger Security Case File #1877
Name: Jackson Oak Martin, a man as strong and steady as his name implies.
Case: Tracking down a Butter Bandit
Agent note: This case is gonna sizzle….

On the surface, it seems like an almost ridiculous assignment. A thief has been breaking into pastry chef Mariette Levine’s shop. And the only thing taken? Organic butter. But one night, Mariette herself is attacked, and Ranger Security assigns agent Jackson Martin to guard their favorite chef – closely!

Unfortunately, the ultra-dishy Jackson also makes Mariette’s reserve melt faster than…er, butter. Which is bad. In a very, very good way.

Has Mariette discovered the recipe for delectable disaster, or is this tasty body guard someone she’ll need to keep on her menu for good?

The Keeper is another book in the Men Out of Uniform series that I have been following for some time now! Like the rest of this series, it does not disappoint. It is a hot little number in it’s trademark red cover!

Major Jackson Oak Martin’s Ranger team was caught by an IED that took out several members of his team and deafened him in one ear. Unwilling to face riding a desk for the rest of his military career, he takes a medical discharge and finds a job waiting for him at Ranger Security. The men who formed Ranger Security are former Rangers and understand the hardships he will face with rejoining civilian life. Jackson’s first case upon joining the team is to find the “Butter Bandit”. Someone is breaking into Mariette Levine’s shop and targeting her butter. Jackson is anticipating Mariette to be a rosy cheeked older lady. He is surprised when he find that she is the woman of his dreams. Too bad she’s on a break from men!

Mariette has had bad luck with men, and has decided to focus on her career and leave men alone for a while. She doesn’t seem to be a good judge of character anyways! Imagine her surprise when the yummy “giant” that walks through her door is the man who is going to be spending nights protecting her!

The Keeper is a great little addition to this wonderful series that Rhonda Nelson has been writing. I have enjoyed how she tastefully describes all the traumas that precipitate the men’s exits from the military. This book is no different, with the description of Jackson trying desperately to save one of his team members who was hit by the IED. These little reminders make me thankful for the men and women who protect our security by putting their lives on the line.

This is a great little book to pop in your purse and devour in a bunch of hours while sitting at a dance studio, the skating rink or snowy day curled up on the couch!

This is the day of the week where I post a book review for a story on the steamier side of romance.  You all know that I love my Blaze subscription.  Here’s another example of one of the Blaze books!  Enjoy!

Ranger Security Emploee file #153
Name: Jay Weatherford, aka the Phoenix
Specialty: Getting out of really hot situations…and creating new ones!

Subject (Jay Weatherford) was nicknamed “the Phoenix” after walking out of a burning building unscathed.  He’s Ranger Security’s newest recruit, and assigned to Case File #8765 – locating the heir to the Betterworth Chocolate fortune, Truffles (dog).

Working for the competition is Charlie Martin…and she has a grudge against Ranger Security.  This could complicate the investigation.  Getting under each other’s skin is one thing.  Getting under each other – in the hot, sexy and naked way – is another!

The situation is heating up, and fast.  Our man is fireproof.

Charlie Martin, however, is not….

Welcome to another review of my favorite Blaze books!  These are my favorite pop in your purse and read at dance class/skating class/waiting at the doctor’s office type of book.  They are short and hot! This is another book in the Men Out of Uniform series by Rhonda Nelson.  This series feature the ever increasing employees of Ranger Security.

Charlie Martin talks her way into an interview with the boys of Ranger Security because she knows their receptionist, Carlos.  Although she knows it’s a long shot, she wants to leave the police force and go into security and Ranger Security is the best firm around.  There are two problems, she’s female and she isn’t former military.  Things aren’t going well during the interview so she decides to pull the trump card and let them know that she has hacked their computer system and they need to beef up their security!  Although Jamie, Guy & Brian – the main men of Ranger Security – question their decision after Charlie has left, they go ahead and hire Jay Weatherford (The Phoenix) as they originally decided.

Jay’s first job with Ranger Security is to find a kidnapped heiress (dog) know as Truffles.  What he doesn’t know going into the job is that Charlie has managed to get herself hired with the competition and has also been assigned to find Truffles.  Sparks fly when Charlie and Jay show up to meet Truffles’ friend and start their investigation.  Both trying to outdo one another and “solve” the case.

This is a delightful addition to the “Men Out of Uniform” series that Rhonda Nelson has been writing for Harlequin Blaze.  All of the other books of this series start with a male member of the military having to leave and start life in the civilian world for some reason and their first case has them come upon a challenging female that they end up marrying.  This one has a slightly different take as both of the main characters of this story are involved in security work.  I loved the characters of Charlie and Jay!  Charlie is a strong female tired of constantly having to prove herself in the testosterone ridden world of law enforcement.  Jay is a tortured soul being the only one to survive a burning building in Baghdad. The sparks fly between Charlie and Jay – both of the sexual kind as well as sparks from the butting of two stubborn heads!  The finding of Truffles takes a second seat to the story of Jay and Charlie solving the mystery and healing each other.  I liked how the author kept things moving along.

This is a great little book.  Perfect to pick up and read over the space of a few hours.
