BLURB:

sugarbeat's books romance books romance novel reviews historical contemporary eroticaPiper McGee can smell a set up a mile away. She can smell a Marine even further. Born to a dual-enlisted couple who divorced before she was old enough to remember a single family holiday together and proceeded to redefine the very definition of family through several marriages and even more step-siblings, Piper has made it her life’s promise to herself to never become involved with one of the few and the proud. They’re among the most irresponsible people she knows, leaving destruction in their wake and broken hearts paving the way to their next duty station. And in her opinion, Alec Douglas is just another example, until he pries her heart open along with other parts of her, making her question everything she’s ever let herself believe about honor, courage, and commitment.

What does a man do with six month’s down time and no warm body to share his bed? For Sergeant Alec Douglas, contemplating that question led him to fall prey to his two best friend’s plan to find him that very thing. They know Alec has yet to stay with any one person for more than a few dates. They also know a tragedy from his past created the problem and while that haunts him, making it nearly impossible for Alec to trust his heart to anyone, they also know he’s a sucker for a challenge. Will the enticement of a few thousand dollars riding on him breaking his own rule be just the thing to disrupt his cycle? Taking their bet might be profitable, but is winning the money they’ve dangled under Alec’s nose worth losing himself to the girl they’ve picked out for him?

In his quest to get her to say yes to his crazy proposal, he tracks her all over town only to discover the beautiful, long-legged blond isn’t the studious book worm he mistook her for. In fact, she’s one of Jacksonville’s finest in the form of Orchid, exotic dancer. Her rejection only spurs him to make sure her dancing days are over and she only performs her private pirouette for him, and only him, for the rest of their lives if he has his way.

EXCERPT

Piper opened her car door and started to get in. “Get off my hood.”

“Wait, wait. What if there was a way to make some easy extra cash?” He raised one hand and blinked a few times. “I have a business proposition of sorts for you
” He took two steps toward her and three back, landing on the hood again.

“What? Are you crazy? I don’t do that on the side you perv.”

“No, no. Not that
geeze. The reason I’m persistent is a few thousand dollars rides on if I can get you to date me for six months.” Leaning on his palms, he gave her a crooked smile of triumph as though he was proud he’d remembered why he was there considering his current condition.

“What?” Piper slammed the door and walked back over to him with her arms crossed under her breasts. “So, you don’t actually want me, this is about money?”

“Well, now, don’t get all huffy.  As a matter of fact, I do think you’re hhhooot.  Especially now that I seen all your stuff in
there.” He waved one hand toward the back of the club, a ridiculous grin crossing his face. “But, if don’t want to really date, fine.  We can pretend and still split the money.  You said yourself you need it.”

Piper didn’t like the fact he’d intended to use her all along.  But she wasn’t stupid either.  Several hundred dollars would go a long way in getting her moved and all she had to do was pretend to date this jerk.

“Do you have a name?” It seemed in order to pull off this ruse she at least needed to know who she was in cahoots with.

Interview with Clarissa Yip, author of Tempting a Prince

By Barb Drozdowich

sugarbeats books romance novels romance book reviews

I’d like to welcome Clarissa Yip to the blog today!  She is touring the blogs to promote her new book, Tempting a Prince.  The cover for this book certainly looks yummy! I’ve asked Clarissa a few questions, I hope you enjoy learning about this author as I did!

Barb –  Tell us a bit about you and your writing

Clarissa – Well, I write contemporary romance. I’m a big fan of second chance romances, and seeing old lovers reunite. When I’m not writing, I’m usually cupcake hunting, playing video games, or scrapbooking. I love hanging out with my muse. We’re both Castle and Once Upon a Time fans currently.

Barb –  How would you describe your new release in 20 words or less without using the blurb?

Clarissa – Looking for Prince Charming? That’s what Sarah did, until she’s realized he’s not that charming…

Barb – Where would you live if you could live anywhere in the world?

Clarissa – If I could live anywhere in the world, I think I would move to Japan. But it could change tomorrow depending on how I’m feeling. I do miss Hawaii, though.

Barb – Who are your cheerleaders?  Who encourages you to continue writing?

Clarissa – My main cheerleaders are my best friend, who has been supporting me since I’ve decided to write professionally, and my wonderful crit partners from Passionate Critters. Don’t know what I would do without the ladies!

Barb –  What is it you love most about writing? What’s the hardest part of writing for you?

Clarissa – I love being creative, love arguing with my evil muse, and watching a story unfold as words appear on screen. I think the hardest part is sticking to the outline. I think I have the story down pat, then my muse has to come in and ruin everything. pfft.

Barb –  Do you see yourself in any of your characters?

Clarissa – LOL. I think all of them. My heroines are the people i WANT to be at times. I’m envious of their life, and wish I had their courage and spunk.

Barb –  What is the one book that you think everyone should read?

Clarissa – Wow. Tough question. There are so many great books out there. I’m going to have to say Judith McNaught’s Whitney, My Love. Why? Well, it was one of the first romances I’ve read and reread a million times. It’s long, but it’s wonderful.

Barb –  Where can your fans find you ?

Clarissa – I’m all over the place!

A Bride for Two Renegades by Edith Dubois

By Barb Drozdowich

Welcome to Sugarbeat’s Books – The Home of the Romance Novel

sugarbeats books romance books romance book reviews steamy saturdaysWelcome to Steamy Saturdays

This is the day when I post a review of one of the more racy books that I’ve read.  Today’s choice is a menage story that I reviewed for The Romance Reviews and really enjoyed.

A Bride for Two Renegades by Edith DuBois
ISBN: 161034927X
Release: 2011
Source: I received a copy of this book to read and review for The Romance Reviews and my review for them is posted HERE.
Publisher: Bookstrand

sugarbeats books romance books romance novel reviews steamy saturdayForced to give up one quirky trait after another, Male Order native Sherri Winston feels lost in a sea of ordinary. It’s not until one spectacular night spent with the enigmatic Ethan Blacker that she begins to feel herself again. But he’s an agent working abroad for the UN, and the next morning Sherri must watch him go.
After weeks of pining for what cannot be, Sherri is ready to snap out of it. Little does she expect, however, that hunky film star Benji will roll into town and snatch her heart away. As the two fall in love, Sherri can’t fight the feeling that something is missing.
It‘s not until Benji and Ethan meet in an explosive, revelatory encounter that Sherri realizes only she has the power to bring her men together. As the stakes grow deadly, will love prevail? Or will past wrongs prove too bitter to overcome?

Can one real action hero, one movie action hero and an ordinary girl find love?  This story brings together three people who need each other’s love to be part of cohesive group.  A heart-pounding tear worthy menage!
Sherri Winston is trying to find herself.  Although she grew up in Male Order, she feels out of place, and not ready to find a place for herself in the town.  She has a one night stand with Ethan Blacker, who she finds out is an agent for the UN.  Although the sex spectacular, Ethan gets a call in the morning and has to head out on his next mission.
Sherri thinks she’ll never see him again.

Some time later she has an unfortunate encounter with a snitty Benji – not an encounter that she cares to repeat! Repeat it she does, and this time Benji is much more civilized.  She sees the good side of Benji and starts a relationship with him.  Little does she know that Ethan isn’t out of her life for good and Benji and Ethan are brothers.

I found this menage to be a delightful read.  It wasn’t an easy gathering of three people as is common in menage stories.  Ethan and Benji have deep-seated issues to overcome before they can share a woman.  The action sequences that were included about Ethan’s work added an exciting dimension to the story.

I found the story moved along at a good pace, and showed Sherri to be a capable woman strong enough to handle two men.  A great read overall!
