In My Mailbox March 27th

By Barb Drozdowich

Welcome to In My Mailbox – March 27th edition.  This weekly meme is hosted by The Story Siren, so if you want to join up – head over there, link your blog and wander from blog to blog find out what people are reading!

I have officially survived March break – Monday school starts up again!  I really didn’t get much reading done – and I don’t think I managed to get any of my outstanding reviews written.  I did receive  5 interesting books this week, however!

To start with, I got an e-book of a book that doesn’t have a cover yet!  I feel like I’m on the cutting edge *grins*. Flat Out Love by Jessica Park sounds pretty interesting!  I’m going to have a copy to give away during next weekend’s “Fool for Books” Giveaway Hop.  Here’s the blurb:

Something is seriously off in the Watkins home.  And Julie Seagle, college freshman, small-town Ohio transplant, and the newest resident of this Boston house, is determined to get to the bottom of it.
When Julie’s off-campus housing falls through, her mother’s old college roommate, Erin Watkins, invites her to move in. The parents, Erin and Roger, are welcoming, but emotionally distant and academically driven to eccentric extremes. The middle child, Matt, is an MIT tech geek with a sweet side … and the social skills of a spool of USB cable. The youngest, Celeste, is a frighteningly bright but freakishly fastidious 13-year-old who hauls around a life-sized cardboard cutout of her oldest brother almost everywhere she goes.

And there’s that oldest brother, Finn: funny, gorgeous, smart, sensitive, almost emotionally available. Geographically? Definitely unavailable. That’s because Finn is traveling the world and surfacing only for random Facebook chats, e-mails, and status updates. Before long, through late-night exchanges of disembodied text, he begins to stir something tender and silly and maybe even a little bit sexy in Julie’s suddenly lonesome soul.
To Julie, the emotionally scrambled members of the Watkins family add up to something that … well … doesn’t quite add up. Not until she forces a buried secret to the surface, eliciting a dramatic confrontation that threatens to tear the fragile Watkins family apart, does she get her answer.

Next, I’m busy reading A Walk in the Snark by Rachel Thompson.  It is the book that is going to be featured in the next Bestseller for a Day promotion.  This is going to happen on April 6th.  Be sure to join in the fun that day.  You will be able to get a copy of this book on April 6th for 99 cents from Amazon as well as deals on other books and also be entered to win some prizes!  It’s going to be a cool day, be sure to participate!  For more details go to Bestseller 4 a Day.

I got one e-book that I need to read for a BLB eBook Tour coming to my blog on April 7th.

Mine by Jill Noelle sound pretty interesting also.  Here’s the blurb:

In a decadent empire of the far distant future, Gabriella is chosen to serve as a sexual companion for the king. However, Brie has no intentions of joining the Select Few. In fact, she has another mission, entirely…one that is destined to alter the future of the kingdom’s poverty-stricken population.

Michel also serves the king. It’s his job to train Brie to suit the king’s sexual preferences. Trouble is, Michel wants Brie for his own.

I’ve been on the waiting list for what seems like forever at Paperback Swap, but I finally got a copy of Three Nights with a Scoundrel by Tessa Dare in the mail this week!

The blurb from Goodreads is:

The bastard son of a nobleman, Julian Bellamy is now polished to perfection, enthralling the ton with wit and charm while clandestinely plotting to ruin the lords, ravish the ladies, and have the last laugh on a society that once spurned him. But after meeting Leo Chatwick, a decent man and founder of an elite gentlemen’s club, and Lily, Leo’s enchanting sister, Julian reconsiders his wild ways. And when Leo’s tragic murder demands that Julian hunt for justice, he vows to see the woman he secretly loves married to a man of her own class.

Lily, however, has a very different husband in mind.  She’s loved Julian forever, adores the man beneath the rakish façade, and wants to savor the delicious attraction they share—as his wife. His insistence on marrying her off only reinforces her intent to prove that he is the only man for her. Obsessed with catching a killer, Julian sinks back to the gutters of his youth, forcing Lily to reach out with a sweet, reckless passion Julian can’t resist. Can her desire for a scoundrel save them both—or will dangerous secrets threaten more than their tender love?

Lastly, I won a copy of How Sweet it Is by Sophie Gunn from Kathy at I Am A Reader Not a Writer. Thank you so much Kathy!  I’m really looking forward to reading this one!  Here’s the blurb on Goodreads:

Single mom Lizzie Bea Carpenter learned long ago that no white knight was coming to save her. A hardworking waitress at the local diner, she’s raising her daughter to be like the independent women in her “Enemy Club”—high school rivals turned best friends, promising to always tell each other the whole truth and nothing but!

Yet part of Lizzie wishes she did have a man’s help, just for small stuff, like fixing up the house. Her fairy godmother must have been listening, because Dante “Tay” Giovanni soon appears. He’s sexy, kind, and offering assistance—no strings attached.

Slowly, steadily, Lizzie’s heart opens. But the grip of the past is fierce, and nothing in life is ever really free. Tay has his own tragedies to overcome, but if he can, he’ll fix more than Lizzie’s home. He’ll show her just how sweet it is to be loved by him.

Now…..I just have to find the time to read them all!  What did you get in your mailbox this week?

In My Mailbox – more Indie authors

By Barb Drozdowich

Here it is almost Sunday – time for In My Mailbox.  I’ve just had the opportunity to read the Saturday post at The Story Siren.    It’s been a rough week for book bloggers 🙁  I must admit, although I started book blogging to give myself a outlet for my opinions of the books I read, I have had the opportunity to meet some people that are pretty passionate about books.  I’ve also had the opportunity to read some pretty interesting books.  Books that 8 months ago I wouldn’t have considered reading. Although I’ll always have my favorite authors, book bloggers like Kristi and others have introduced me to new authors, new books and even new genres!

I may be a book blogger, but I’m also a reader.  I’m the person who gets a latte and wanders the aisles looking for something new to buy.  And buy, I do!  The only thing my family gets me for Christmas or birthdays (other than Starbucks cards) is bookstore gift cards 🙂

I love the IMM meme!  It gives me the opportunity each week to find new books to read.  My husband claims that my TBR pile needs it own room, but ultimately he’s happy I have someone to talk to about books 🙂

Without further ado, it’s time for me to share what I got this week!  Not to brag, but to share what potentially exciting new books I’ll be reading this coming  week:)  Then I’ll wander from blog to blog finding new ideas of what to add to my wish list.

This week was another week of Indie authors.  Let’s hope that this group will be as good as last week!

Copping To It by Ava Meyer – When Claire meets undercover cop Ty Williamson, she fears revealing her inner vixen. Then she’s captured by a gang of bikers that Ty has infiltrated. Ordered to have public sex with Claire, Ty just wants to get her to safety – until he sees the desire burning in her eyes. Now Ty will prove he wants all of her: the good with the bad. In fact, the badder Claire is, the better they’ll be-together.

Staking Claim by Madison Scott –  Workaholic Gabrielle Ellis never lets her relationships make it past a couple dates. The sooner she can ditch them, the less chance they might leave her. Of course, she never picks the kind of guys she’d want anything long term with anyway… After a night out celebrating, yet another escape from her jackass of the week, and her upcoming move, she wakes up in her best friend’s truck in the middle of nowhere.

According to Jake Marshal, she dumps every guy she dates for one reason–they’re not him. He promises her, if she’ll just let go and allow herself to feel, she’ll know she belongs in his bed, forever. Jake, consummate bachelor and participant in her hidden fantasies, wants to stake his claim. On her. As much as she wants him, she’s scared, too. After one touch, Gabrielle knows she doesn’t stand a chance because Jake always gets what he wants. But just maybe, she’s been his all along.

Ethan’s Chase by Bronwyn Storm- Still wounded from a disastrous love affair, advertising executive Ethan Phillips has spent the past five years outwitting Cupid with a series of dekes and fakes. Who knew the tricky cherub would get wise? Rather than piercing Ethan’s heart with an arrow, he douses it with amaretto-flavored milk. A quick visit to the drycleaner and a stern lecture on the dangers of gorgeous, charming women, and he figures he’s made another clean getaway.

But when the sexy woman turns out to be Chase Logan, his new systems programmer, Ethan’s got no where to run. Her charm, humor and intelligence soon have his heart racing and his libido revving. Suddenly, the man who spent his time running from Cupid, is now looking to borrow a few arrows. Ethan’s ready to give chase and pursue love. Will he catch the heart of his programmer or just be left catching his breath?

So….what did you get this week??  What are you going to curl up with this week??

Come back this week on Monday for a Valentine’s special book review – a chance to get some cheap books an entered into a draw for $150.00 in book gift cards!!  On Wednesday I have a guest author dropping by to talk about her new book – Chiczofrenia – and a chance to win VISA gift cards!

Hope you have a great reading week!

In My Mailbox – Indie Authors!

By Barb Drozdowich

Happy Sunday! and welcome to In My Mailbox sponsored by The Story Siren.

I haven’t participated in a few weeks, but I thought I’d join in today as I actually got some books this week.  Another quick note – as I wander from blog to blog, I realize that I need a new picture for this meme!  There are so many creative pictures of mailboxes out there!  Anyways – on with the list 🙂

I have received 6 ebooks from various authors.

I received Play Fling by Amber Scott to be part of the “Bestseller for a day” event.  Drop by my blog on Valentine’s day to read my review and be entered to win some prizes!

Blurb: Playing cupid isn’t a reward; it’s Millie’s punishment. If she doesn’t find repressed, divorcee, Brooke, true love in the next thirty days, Millie’ll lose the one thing in this life sentence worth fighting for, her partner. Just two problems: First, Millie sucks at matchmaking. Second, too young, too hot, Elliott keeps getting in Millie’s way.

I’ve received three from Virna DePaul to read and review.  I’m currently reading the first and it’s pretty good.

This Magic Moment by Virna DePaul.  Blurb:

Melina Parker has always excelled in two things: research followed by hands-on application. She prides herself on being a lady in public, but after she’s dumped yet again for being a lady in the bedroom, she’s ready to go back to school. Determined to find her inner sex diva, she enlists her childhood friend, Max Dalton, to tutor her after hours. Instead, she ends up in the wrong bed and gets a lesson in passion from Max’s twin brother, Rhys Dalton, a man Melina’s always secretly wanted but never thought she could have. Despite craving the occasional adventure, Melina’s a small-town girl who wants roots and a family. Rhys and Max, on the other hand, are world-famous magicians who travel from one city to another, changing bed partners as easily as plane flights.

Can a woman who’s always longed for hearth and home find satisfaction with a man whose entire life has been about moving on to the next big thing? With her belief in absolutes and his skill with magic, it’s the perfect formula for love.

Cop Appeal is the second from Virna.  Blurb: First comes love, then comes pleasure… Sarah’s always loved undercover cop Luke Anderson. Only Luke comes from money, plus he’s sexy AND honorable. Four years ago, she made the biggest mistake of her life–fearing she wasn’t good enough for Luke, she left him to marry another cop. A year after her divorce, Luke’s back to prove her wrong and show her what she’s been missing.

Copping To It is the third.  Blurb: When Claire meets undercover cop Ty Williamson, she fears revealing her inner vixen.

Protecting Paige is the third  in Norah Wilson’s To Serve and Protect series.  I’ve received this ebook from The Romance Reviews to read and review.  I’ve read the first two and have enjoyed them!  Blurb: Single mom Paige Harmer is at her wits end about her son Dillon, who’s running with a bad crowd. She turns to nextdoor neighbor Cst Tommy Godsoe. Sidelined by a gunshot injury, he just wants to be left alone, but Paige is unstoppable. Before long, he’s drawn into their lives. Paige is going to need a cop in her corner, and Tommy needs Paige to bring him back to life.

The last book for this week is Rebellion by Rachell Cotterill .  This book is billed as an epic fantasy.  A bit out of my comfort zone, but that’s good 🙂  Here’s the blurb for this one: When her dreams are smashed by an assignment which would leave her trapped in a job far beneath her abilities, Eleanor has nowhere to turn. The Imperial system prides itself on unassailable perfection. In desperation she rejects her assignment and the quality of life she would have been guaranteed – and finds her imagination captured by legends which tell of a secret society of elite assassins.

I’ll be a busy girl this week – lots to read and I’m being interviewed this week on Chrystals blog – Snowdrop Dreams of Books for Romance Week!  Pretty exciting!  So…..what did you get this week??
