Book two in the Daughters of Erin Trilogy
Blonde and beautiful Lady Anna Blacknall is in the mood for mischief. Entering Dublin’s most notorious den of vice, she finds herself in the arms of a mysterious emerald-eyed Irishman. And although he is masked, his tender kiss is hauntingly familiar.

Conlan McTeer, Duke of Adair, has come to Dublin to fight for a free Ireland. But he’s suddenly reunited with the young woman who had once claimed his heart, and his passion turns from politics to pleasure. When their sizzling encounter brings danger to Anna’s door, she must decide where her loyalties lie – and quickly. For someone will do whatever it takes to destroy Conlan…and anyone he dares to love.

This beautifully written book is set in Ireland in December 1799. The conflict that is occurring at the time of this book is The Act of the Union which ultimately created the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in 1801. Our hero, Conlan, is actively working to defeat the vote that would create this United Kingdom. He has been working for years behind the scenes doing what he can and still protecting his own people.

Lady Anna Blacknall is a bored young lady, freshly out in society. She has already grown tired of the balls and parties of the social scene and is busy convincing her friend, Lady Jane Cannondale, a widow, to keep her busy. Lady Jane gets her into a masked ball at the scandalous Olympian Club.  Anna runs into Conlan, who she knows and has been attracted to for several years. The sizzling kiss between them is supposed to scare Anna off from her potentially scandalous outings has the opposite effect. She’s just stubborn enough to try to figure out what is going on.

I am new to Laurel McKee, and this is the first book that I have read of her’s. This is the second book in a trilogy, but my not reading the first didn’t interfere with my enjoyment of the book. I must admit, I knew nothing of Irish history going into this book. Sad considering I have relatives who left Ireland probably around the time that this book was set in! I was fascinated to follow along the activities that made up the background for this romance. I still have alot to learn about Irish history and will be doing some reading! For example, I don’t understand how Conlan can be a Duke, but not be part of Irish parliament.

I loved how the author moved us along the story, without noticing the passage of time! Her lyrical style of writing had me just enjoying the words as they flowed along. This book is actually two love stories for the price of one! Anne and Conlan are the main story, but Anna’s mother Katherine and Nicolas is the second. There is one scene between Katherine and Nicholas that I think illustrates this beautiful style.

He kissed her palm, his open lips caressing each finger, each bit of soft, trembling skin. His eyes closed as he savored her, inhaling deeply of her perfume. In that moment, she did feel like a goddess, like Paris – and all the world – would be at their feet.

She felt such a profound, painful longing sweep over her at his kiss. She had always been puzzled by her friends when they threw themselves into passionate affairs, when they spoke in heated whispers of their rapture over some man. But now – oh, now – she understood. The ice she had spent her whole life trapped in melted away, and she was vulnerable to every emotion in the universe.

…He turned his face up to her, and their mouths met in a passionate kiss. There was nothing tentative or awkward about it. It was if they had kissed a hundred times before in a dozen lifetimes, and their lips and bodies fit perfectly together. It was like coming home after a long, long journey.

Isn’t that just beautiful?? I was so taken with this author’s writing style that I found myself sighing in delight!

Book 3, Lady of Seduction (Caroline’s story) is due out in 2011 and I’ll be lining up to get a copy!

Mailbox Monday and What Are you Reading?

By Barb Drozdowich

Thanks for joining me for Mailbox Monday! I also have a Valentine’s Giveaway ongoing.  Feel free to enter.
Mailbox Monday has turned into a touring meme.  Each month it is hosted at a new blog.  This way we can focus on learning about a new friend!  Next week, MM moves to the Library of Clean Reads for February.

MAILBOX MONDAY

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week. (Library books don’t count, but eBooks & audiobooks do). Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists!

I’ve been doing alot of reading and reviewing for The Romance Reviews lately.  I’ve been getting great book after great book to read.  Below you can read the blurbs of the two that I’ve received for this week.

Lust Boat by Roz Lee

This isn’t your grandparent’s cruise ship!

When her fiancé called off the wedding and told her he’d had better sex with a blow up doll, Candace traded in her honeymoon cruise for a week on the Lothario, the most notorious ship to ever sail the high seas. Little does she know that Ryan, the sexy passenger who offered to be her escort as she samples all the ship has to offer, is really Ryan Callahan, the ship’s playboy owner.

Ryan Callahan is single, rich, and considered quite the catch. Two years ago he and his business partner launched the Lothario, a floating den of iniquity where passengers can indulge their every sexual fantasy, but since the ship docked following its maiden cruise, Ryan has been so scarce he’s earned the nickname, Monk, until sweet, naïve Candace coaxes him out of his tower, heats his blood, and steals his heart. But will she still want him when she finds out who he really is?

Saving Grace by Norah Wilson is the second book in her Serve & Protect Series.  I read the first book, Guarding Suzannah, in the series and completely enjoyed it!

After wrecking her car and waking with amnesia, fledgling reporter Grace Morgan is shocked to learn that she’d been in the process of leaving the husband she loves (Fredericton City Police Detective Ray Morgan) for another man. It can’t be true! Can it? She’s determined to remember, even if it kills her. And it just might. Ray gets jammed up with IAD from the wads of mystery cash in Grace’s wrecked car. When bullets start to fly, he is forced to take the wife he thinks faithless on the lam while he figures out where the money came from and who wants them dead.

So…..what am I reading?

I’m reading a great story by Laurel McKee – Duchess of Sin

Blonde and beautiful Lady Anna Blacknall is in the mood for mischief.  Entering Dublin’s most notorious den of vice, she finds herself in the arms of a mysterious emerald-eyed Irishman.  And although he is masked, his tender kiss is hauntingly familiar.

I won this book in a giveaway and I’m totally enjoying reading it!  Isn’t the cover beautiful?
