Today we are reviewing a book that I received from the author some time ago. I’ve finally gotten to the point where it’s time to read it! This TBR pile is totally out of hand! I hope you enjoy my thoughts on Reckless Runaway at the Racecourse!

As the title suggests, Reckless Runaway at the Racecourse, starts with an almost accident at a racecourse. Luke Caldecott is at the racecourse to see the top thoroughbred horse that he has been training run the race. Just as the pack of horses are coming into sight, he realizes that there is a woman on the track! Not only was she on the track by she didn’t seem to be moving across the track, but standing in the middle. Anticipating a horrible crash, he runs out onto the track and carries her off to safety. You’d think she’d be thankful, but instead she berates him for manhandling her. In this one instance, Luke comes to the conclusion that she must not be too bright. That opinion is confirmed when she grabs him and kisses him! When she is confronted by a drunken sod of a man, he realizes why he was kissed and helps her get rid of her now ex-boss before he is called to the winner’s circle.
Not one to give up easily, Fliss Merrick waits for Luke by his car to thank him again for his help and ends up getting a ride from him to the train station. This starts a series of events that has them staying together and forming a relationship.
Although they can’t see it at the beginning, this is the perfect relationship for them both. Fliss is the eternal optimist, able to laugh at herself and her misfortunes. Luke on the other hand is more dour. He is determined to make something of his training stables and is equally determined that he doesn’t have time for a relationship. Where Fliss is flaky, Luke is logical and grounded; where Fliss is determined to move on with a relationship, Luke is determined to use any excuse to end things.
This short little book is delightful. Although I thought Fliss was a ditz at the beginning of the book, I grew to like her and her sunny personality. The character of Luke just needed a kick in the pants at times, but he was endearing and very well written! The action of this book is believable and marches right along. It is a warm, frequently funny romance. Overall, a nice light read!
